Birthday Fun
September started off with lots of birthday celebrations. First up, there was a karaoke night with the gang to celebrate Tanya’s birthday. Then Kim and I had an adventure at Destiny USA for my birthday. We did a sci-fi themed escape room, bowling, lunch, and lots of shopping. I also got some really cool presents from her, including a tarot deck from my favorite artist, complete with a custom drawn Kraken card. Then, as if I hadn’t done enough that week, I went and did a fantasy themed escape room with my gaming friends – and I even dressed up for it, because why not?!

Project Updates
I finally finished up the Morning Glory pool satin stitch project this month, as well as put together a cute Wall-E and Eve Lego set that Kim got me for my birthday. Otherwise, not much crafting got done this month thanks to getting a nasty cold and therefore having zero energy.

Lindsey Sterling Concert
Just before I got sick this month, I made it to Syracuse for the Lindsey Sterling concert. Apocalyptica was the opener, and then she was headlined with Halestorm, a band I don’t know. Overall, the vibe was way more metal than I expected from a Lindsey Sterling concert. Apparently I’m getting too old for this stuff because the lights and the sound started to set off a migraine, and I had to leave the venue before Halestorm played. Honestly, it was even hard sitting through the last few of Lindsey’s songs! Oh, and I was so frustrated that people insisted on standing for her concert, so even though I’d paid good money for seats, I had to stand if I wanted to see anything. Come on, people!! Needless to say, I will be very picky about buy concert tickets from now on (as if I wasn’t already!), and I may invest in some nice earplugs. Then again, concert ticket prices have gotten to be so astronomical, I may just stop attending concerts altogether.

Other Tidbits
Like I mentioned earlier, I got pretty sick this month with a cold that just would not let go. Just as the worst of the cold was hitting me, I had a 2.5 day virtual conference to attend. So, I took advantage of my adjustable bed and my nice lap table, and spent the entire conference in bed!
The only other thing of note from this month was that I have left a permanent mark on the University of Rochester – literally! They let faculty, staff, and students sign the final steel beam for the new Emergency Medicine tower before installing it up at the very top of the 9-story building. It felt so cool to be a part of history!

Looking Forward
October promises to be exciting. I will start my next tattoo, help with a megagame at RIT, see a local production of the Bird Cage, attend a Halloween-themed drag show, and see something called the “Vampire Circus.” Plus, it’s my favorite spooky month, so I’ll get all dressed up and hand out candy to the kiddos. All of that while continuing my stitchy projects, my carillon lessons, and spending quality time with my loved ones. Geez, just looking at that list makes me tired! Until next month, stay healthy folks. Don’t forget to go get your flu and covid shots!
