About

This blog is an outgrowth of Alyx’s decision to take a step back from social media. Here, you can continue to stay abreast of their travels, their craft projects, and their life, which of course includes their fuzzy family members. Additionally, you’ll get to see one of Alyx’s other recently rediscovered passions – writing. Everything is sparkly and new around here, so bear with them as they get settled into this space.

Meet Alyx

Born and raised in the Rochester, NY area, Alyx is a full-time ASL interpreter. In their free time, they pursue a wide range of hobbies. Their bucket list includes seeing all 50 states (41 so far) and visiting all 63 national parks (22 so far.) While they are a lover of the outdoors, enjoying hiking and kayaking, they also are an avid crafter. From knitting and crochet, to embroidery and sewing, they enjoy pushing themselves to bring their creations to life, learning new skills along the way.

Meet the Family

Kim

Since 2014, Kim has been putting up with Alyx’s idiosyncrasies, even moving across the country when they wanted to move back closer to their family. The two married in 2018 and enjoy a peaceful life at home with their pets. Kim is a crafter in her own right, designing artistic quilts that she gifts to family and friends.

Harley and Quinn

These two foster sisters, now around 12-years old, were born approximately 9 months apart, coming to Alyx as a bonded pair in 2014. While they used to be thick as thieves, constantly cuddling, now that they have a whole house to roam, they’ve drifted apart. Quinn prefers to act like a dog, begging for food and following the humans around everywhere, while Harley is content to sit back, watching and judging the other members of the household.

Brienne

Days before the nation shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Alyx and Kim brought Brienne home to join the pack. Winters are hard for this Georgia peach, who’s happy place is sitting on the deck, basking in the sun for hours. Her second favorite activity is snoozing in the human bed, and if the humans dare to sleep in too long, she’ll moan and sigh until she gets her way. There’s no way of knowing this senior lady’s exact age, but estimates put her somewhere between 7 and 9-years old.
